The Diamond in The Rough

I’ve become very selective about the kinds of things I read, listen to, or watch each day.   Listening to positive, uplifting, owning-your-own-power messages is a powerful way to start your day, and aligning with the likes of Wayne Dyer, Neale Donald Walsch, and of course, my beloved Abraham-Hicks, is a part of my every day experience.

In furthering my own spiritual awakening, I will often find that material I have heard, perhaps many times before, lands on me in a different way.   I may very well have heard the exact message dozens of times previously, but this time, something new strikes a chord with me that somehow had escaped me before.   My girlfriend and I will have a conversation about some specific nuance of what we have come to know and live, and routinely, the next day she will casually come across a video from Abraham-Hicks that addresses this particular detail.   It’s uncanny.   And it’s a lot of fun for us.
One of these subtle nuances has to do with our feelings, related to our goals.

We all have goals we want to achieve.   We all have set forth for ourselves, in various degrees of analytical over-thinking, what we wish to accomplish by such and such deadline, and I have been no exception to this.   Personally, I have a long list of what I like to call milestones, because of the perception of the endless journey our lives take, rather than the association we have with the perceived endpoint of a goal.   Regardless of what terminology we use, we can all agree that goals are a destination of sorts.   How ever long we choose to remain at that destination or continue forward is up to us, but we still want to get there first.

I’ve written a lot about feeling all that we wish to feel in the having of that which we want; imagining all the feelings of the life we wish to be living and then we will soon indeed be living it.   But before now, somehow, a tiny little sentence had slipped beneath my radar.

The feeling is the destination.

All the things we want, all the experiences we wish to have, all the things we want to become – we want all of them because of how we think we will feel in experiencing them.   If we ask ourselves, when looking at our goals, “Why do I want this?” enough times, it will always come down to  a root source:

“Because then I would feel happy. “

But we can choose to be happy at any moment.   We’ve decided we must reach outside ourselves to Acquire, Attain, and Achieve, when all we really have to do is to reach within and Align.   Our inner, intuitive guidance is leading us to the essence of these things the whole time.

As an example, I have, for the past six months, been receiving a single, strong answer from within whenever I ask myself, “what is the next step for me towards allowing all that I want?” And the answer has been: “demo reel.”   Since first hearing this answer, I’ve received lots of contrasting opinions on the usefulness and effectiveness of demo reels in general, from many quality sources, but my inner guidance has remained steadfast. “Demo reel.”
So, in the past few weeks, I’ve begun pre-production for shooting my own demo reel, and it has already been a lot of fun.   And I’ve begun to see why I was getting this message.

On my list, there are progressing milestones for both writing and acting, culminating in acting in, writing, and directing my own films.   And in deciding to shoot my own demo reel, I have found myself wading in the waters of that very culmination.   I am selecting scenes that showcase my strengths as an actor, some of which I’d written previously.   And I am writing more; brand-new scenes – stirring, emotionally moving vignettes – are flowing through me onto the page in effortless ways.

I’m choosing locations, planning shoots, lining up scene partners.   I’m selecting varying styles and lighting,  and buying some equipment to play with it and learn from and develop my skill set in its use.

I’m finding all the ways to make this reel look and feel as high-quality as possible, as if it actually came from a range of top-notch productions I have acted in, using any and all resources at my disposal.   And the Universe is lining up cooperative components I could not have possibly planned for:

-A friend has acquired professional equipment that I can make use of for free, along with his help in the shoot.

-Travel is an effortless, free option at present, which is amazing all by itself, and many of my LA friends just happen to be enjoying prolonged stays in locations where I want to shoot, like New York City.

-My parents in Houston, though our family has never owned them before, were suddenly given ownership of three horses.   But everybody owns three horses they can use in their films, right?   No?

And in all, the joy I feel in living my passion and purpose is astounding.

“There’s nothing in all of the Universe more important for anyone to understand than how the vibration they are offering is matching the vibration of their desires, and the way you feel is your indicator of whether you are allowing your connection to Source or not.   Every good feeling; every positive creation; all your abundance, clarity, health, vitality, and Well-Being – and all the things that you consider to be good, are dependent upon the way you are feeling right now.” ~Abraham-Hicks

Today I’ve cleared the list of milestones from my dry-erase board.   I’ve defined them, written them down clearly, made my specific requests to the Universe for them, and in following my inner guidance through the creation of my demo reel and each subsequent step I am given, I move forward confidently knowing that they are already flowing to me.   On the board, where my milestones once were, I leave behind only two simple reminders for myself:

Let go and trust.

The feeling is the destination.
